Synposis of The Peacock's Heritage

The narrative is a work of historical fiction that delves into the life of Brigid, the daughter of an Irish tenant farmer, during the mid-nineteenth century. During her early years, she experienced numerous challenges, such as the potato famine and losing family members. Afterwards, her father endeavours to arrange her marriage, causing Brigid to flee to Dublin. She is lured into a Fenian organisation and marries a prominent member who passes away because of typhoid, leaving her with two children.

Brigid marries Finnbar, the most senior member of the organisation, resulting in the birth of their third child. Finnbar is involved in violent Fenian activities and has affiliations with associates. With the British military in pursuit, he must flee Ireland and seek sanctuary in Boston, America, to avoid arrest. He obtained a position as a Professor at Harvard. Brigid, accompanied by her three children, accompanies him on a ship under the command of John, a white Bajan, to whom Brigid feels a strong connection.

The family adjusts to their new life in America, where the children flourish. However, Brigid becomes a widow once again when Finnbar is killed while transporting gold bullion for an American-based Fenian organisation.

After some years, she meets and marries John in a whirlwind romance. Following a captivating and eventful journey to his residence in Barbados, Brigid returns to discover an enigmatic letter from England. The letter is the essential clue to Brigid's authentic lineage and ancestry, subtly suggested in the novel by mentioning a peacock.

The story is replete with many twists and turns, accompanied by the addition of several secondary characters, all of which contribute to its richness.
